Participative Culture

Read an intereseting article today about how we live in a participative culture.

Since article 21 (1992) which is
a program run by the United Nations (UN) related to sustainable development and was the planet's first summit to discuss global warming related issues. It is a comprehensive blueprint of action to be taken globally, nationally and locally by organizations of the UN, governments, and major groups in every area in which humans directly affect the environment. ...
It states that
  • (1) Everyone has the right to take part in the government of his country, directly or through freely chosen representatives.
  • (2) Everyone has the right of equal access to public service in his country.
  • (3) The will of the people shall be the basis of the authority of government; this will shall be expressed in periodic and genuine elections which shall be by universal and equal suffrage and shall be held by secret vote or by equivalent free voting procedures.
Basically as now most people are consulted on design and redevelopments of their neighbourhoods, peoples levels on understanding of their environment has increased. Public consultations not only allow the designer to fully understand the site but the user, visitor, resident or whoever has an input and therefore gains a higher level of understanding of the landscape.

I will try to get hold of a copy of the article tomorrow.
