Adaptive transformations

Use, reuse and shift infrastructures - renewal is continuous - essential that there is a maximisation of resources (material, human or economic) and an understanding of the significance of meaning within a place. (Cumberlidge)

An example if this is Landschaftspark, Duisburg Nord

Since 1991 it has been a public park designed by Peter Latz with the 'intention to heal and understand the industrial past rather than reject it.'

It was a steel and coal plant that heavily polluted the land around it. Latz's design perserved as much of the original site as possible even keeping the polluted soils which are remediated by photoremediation.

It is a re-representation and understanding of the past. Nature is now being used to heal and cleanse the damage man made to the site.

The industrial wasteland of over 200 hectares is now a public place where the 'silent monuments are a stark reminder of the hard physical labour that took place here'
